Mindfulness is a practiced way of thinking and remaining focused. Mindfulness includes:
  • Focusing on the present
  • Trying not to think about past events or things that might be coming up in future
  • Intentionally focusing on what’s happening around you in the current moment.

As we spend so much time dissecting past events in our minds, or anticipating or worrying about things that may happen in the future, mindfulness is a technique to improve your mental health by trying to experience your life as it happens. Mindfulness aims to
  • Helps clear your head
  • Increases self-awareness
  • Helps to slow down your thoughts
  • Increases concentration
  • Aids relaxation
  • Helps to cope with stress.

Mindfulness is a technique that anyone can practice; and there is lots of evidence supporting the benefits of living mindfully, such as improving your memory and reducing stress to name a few. You can increase your mindfulness with activities like meditation or yoga. Or just aim to be mindful and pay close attention during every day things like walking, driving and brushing your teeth; rather than doing these tasks on autopilot.
